REIDSVILLE Hessie L. Barber, 85, of 1201 S. Park Drive, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at her residence.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at Lakeview Memorial Park.
Mrs. Barber was born in Rockingham County to the late Joe Thomas Loftis and Minnie Pearl Paschal Loftis. She was a lifetime member of New Hope Primitive Baptist Church and the owner of Bullock Motel and Mobile Homes since 1956. Every year she organized the Loftis family reunion in Reidsville and always took time for her elderly friends. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Weldon A. Johnson , George T. Barber, Sr. and Sam Underwood, siblings, Verlie L. Pryor, J.T. Loftis, Vance Loftis, Gladys Meyers and Melvin Loftis.
She is survived by her children, Glenn Ray Johnson of High Point, Betty Johnson Horton and husband, Harold A., of Hurdle Mills, Van Allen Johnson , George T. Barber, Jr. and wife, Roxanne B., of Reidsville; grandchildren, Marlene J. Allen, Rachel J. Martin, Alan Ross, Gina R. Morton, Karen R. Blackwell, Julianne R. Hall, George T. Barber, III, Sarah B. Truitt, Jason K. Johnson ; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Bertha Van Metre Boyd and Bailey L. Craddock.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at Wilkerson Funeral Home. Other times the family will be at the residence of George T. Barber, Jr., 1566 Hwy. 29 S Business, Reidsville.
