GREENSBORO - Mrs. Mildred Childress, 83, of Greensboro, went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 4, 2008, at Moses Cone Hospice Unit.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 8, at Philadelphia Baptist Chapel with Rev. Joe Chandler officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park.

Mrs. Childress was born in Guilford County on March 24, 1925, the daughter of Hurley Cockman Sr. and Nona Summers Cockman. She was a member of Gate City Baptist Church. She worked at Sears-Roebuck & Company for over 30 years.

Mrs. Childress was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Cockman.

Surviving are daughters, Jeanne Griffith of Greensboro, Debbie Bray and husband, James Gary Bray, of Madison; sister, Margaret Amick of Greensboro; brothers, Hurley Cockman, Jr. of Yanceyville and Larry Cockman of McLeansville; grandsons, Paul Gourley, Steven Gourley, Brian Crum, Rev. Todd Crum; great-grandsons, Justin Gourley, Noah Gourley, Carsten Gourley, Owen Crum.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. on Monday evening at Lambeth Troxler Funeral Service, 300 W. Wendover Avenue, Greensboro.

Memorials may be made in Mrs. Childress' memory to Hospice & Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27405
