Lessie Underwood Davis

Mrs. Lessie Agnes Underwood Davis was reunited with her family in heaven on June 20, 2012.
Born February 24, 1923 in Caswell County, North Carolina, Lessie was the daughter of the late James Lee and Hattie Terrell Underwood.
Also preceding her in death was her husband, George Henry Davis; one brother, Overby Underwood; and two beloved sisters, Edna Underwood Miles and Martha Underwood Simmons.
Mrs. Davis was a devout Christian and long-time member of Hunter Hills Baptist Church in Greensboro. She graduated from Anderson High School (Anderson Township) Caswell County in 1940 and was voted ‘Miss Anderson High’ that same year. She also graduated from McClung’s Business School and worked as a bookkeeper for Newman Machine and Thomas Produce. Lessie is a former member of the American Business Women’s Association, Lou Celia Chapter, in Greensboro. She enjoyed working in her yard, flower arranging, shopping and traveling, but most of all, Lessie enjoyed spending time with her friends and family.
Mrs. Davis is survived by one daughter, LaVonne Davis of Greensboro; granddaughter, Crystal and her husband Chuck Shepherd of Burlington; and three greatgrandchildren, William, Rachael and Adam Shepherd.
The family would like to thank the Clapp’s Nursing Home ‘Gold Hall’ staff for the quality care they have provided for Lessie. Also a very special thank you to family friend Chuck Ratliff for the time, care and love he has shown our family and many others at Clapp’s.
Visitation will be held at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory Inc. on South Church Street, Burlington, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 22. A graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. at Kerr’s Chapel Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Walter Webster of Harvest Baptist Church.
