Obituary Online notes for Edgar Lawrence MYERS
Edgar L. Myers, age 87, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 1, 2010 at Alamance Regional Medical Center after months of failing health and a week of critical illness. Edgar was a native of Edgemont, Maryland and the husband of 66 years to Eva Stanfield Myers who survives. Edgar was born on October 2, 1922 and was the younger son of the late Helena Hartman Myers and Raymond H. Myers.
His professional career started at Landis Tool Co., Lancaster, PA., as a draftsman. During the war years his career brought him to the Burlington area to work for Fairchild Aircraft where he met his wife, Eva S. Myers. His career later brought him back to Western Electric, Burlington Plant, where he retired after 35 years service as a Senior Engineer Tool Designer. In his younger days Ed participated in and enjoyed competition in many sports, including basketball, tennis, golf, swimming and diving. Ed also was an award winning artist who filled his family's home with many beautiful paintings and carvings. Feeling the need to give back to the community Ed served as a tutor to G.E.D. program students for many years in the Alamance Community College system at Glen Hope School. For this Ed was recognized with an Alamance County Community Council Award as well as a Governor's Award in "1999" for Outstanding Volunteer Service. Believing in raising his children in a Christian setting Ed's family attended St. Mark's Reformed Church where Ed served as and Elder and a Sunday School Teacher. Later Ed and his family attended Northside Baptist Church where he again served as a Sunday School Teacher.
Survivors include his wife and sons, William "Bill" Myers and his wife Sandra, Tim Myers and Mark Myers and his wife Ellen, all of Burlington. He will also be missed and fondly remembered by his four grandsons, Rodney (Jackie), Richard (Wendy), Darren (Susan), and Ross Myers; one granddaughter, Jaclyn Myers and five great granddaughters. Ed also leaves behind a first cousin, Emma K. Barclay of Silver Springs, MD, b and a daughter-in-law, Geraldine Myers Mix of Graham.
He was preceded in death by his son, Donald Ray Myers; parents, brother, Richard Myers and his nephew, Richard "Allen" Myers.
The funeral service will be held at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Richard Myers and Rev. Gerald Collins and the burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. 470, Edgar Lawrence Myers
