Mrs. Nina Massey Simmons
ELON — Mrs. Nina Massey Simmons, age 89, formerly of 1207 N.C. Hwy. 87 N., died Sunday, June 7, 2009, at Liberty Commons after several years of failing health.
A native of Caswell County, she was the wife of the late Clyde S. Simmons, and was the daughter of the late Walter J. Massey and the late Beulah Stadler Massey. Nina was a homemaker and in the 1970s, she and her husband, Clyde, operated Simmons Lawn and Garden Center on Hwy. 87 N. She and her mother spent many enjoyable days planting seedlings and then transplanting the flowers into beautiful pots. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Elon, but when her husband served as choir director at Kerr’s Chapel Baptist Church and Concord Christian Church, she often accompanied him.
Mrs. Simmons is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Grace M. Hill and husband, Charles E. "Eb" Hill, of Gibsonville, and Mrs. Alice M. Brooks, of N. Myrtle Beach; three sistersin-law, Mrs. Doris K. Massey, Mrs. Nora Jane Y. Massey, and Mrs. Martha C. Massey Swinney and her husband, Al, all of Burlington; and many nieces and nephews who loved her like a grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents;
three brothers, Elmer E. Massey, Mack W. Massey and Raymond W. Massey; and a brother-in-law, William H. Brooks.
The funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 PM Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Mark Mofield. Interment will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-2:45 Tuesday, prior to the service, and other times at the home of her sister, Grace Hill, 6542 Bethel Church Rd., Gibsonville.
