James Phillip Hogan

    BURLINGTON — Mr. James Phillip Hogan, 85, of Burlington died Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at the Hospice Home in Burlington after one-and one-half years of declining health.
    Born in Burlington, N.C., he was the husband of the late Carolyn Perry Hogan and the son of George Phillip Hogan and Alma Chandler Hogan, both deceased. He was a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill, where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. He served as 1st Lieutenant in the U. S. Army Air Corps during World War II as a pilot with the 9th Air Force in Europe. He flew 29 combat missions and was awarded an Air Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters and an European ribbon with two battle stars.
    Mr. Hogan was senior partner in the CPA firm of Hogan, McMillan and Henderson. He served as an executive officer with Seaboard Underwriters and Bankers and Shippers Insurance Company. He also served as former board member of the following organizations: NCNB, Alamance Country Club (past president), Twin Lakes (founding member), the Rams Club, and the First Baptist Church of Burlington (long-time treasurer). He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Jaycees, as well as the treasurer of the Alamance Indians and Alamance Senators baseball clubs.
    Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Barbara Hogan Waddell and husband Tripp of Burlington and Ms. Ellen Leigh Hogan of Wilmington; one son, Mr. J. Phillip "Flip" Hogan Jr. and wife Anne of Burlington;
one brother, Mr. Thomas Hogan; two sisters, Mrs. Anna O’Brien and Mrs. Nancy Godwin; eight grandchildren, Caroline Waddell Zarzar, Drew Waddell, Perry Medlin, Reid Medlin, Hogan Medlin, Maggie Medlin, Andrew Hogan and Patrick Hogan.
    A graveside service will be conducted at Pine Hill Cemetery on Friday, July 31, 2009 at 11 a.m. by Dr. Terry Peele.
    The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington on Thursday, July 30, 2009 from 6 until 8 p.m.
