Lessie Brim Longest BENNETT, N.C. — Lessie Brim Longest, 93, of 650 Lane Mill Road, passed away Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009 at Care View Rest Home in Snow Camp.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25 at Alamance Memorial Park in Burlington with Chaplain Jan Clark officiating.
Mrs. Longest was born in Surry County, N.C. to the late Joe Sam and Louetta Cobbler Brim. Lessie was a lovely and caring person who made her family a priority, and was an encouragement to everyone she met. She retired from Alamance County Department of Social Services after many years of service. Lessie was an active member of the American Business Women’s Association for more than 40 years. During that time, she held the office of president, and various other offices, and was chosen "Woman of the Year" in 1974 and 1985. She was a long-time resident of Elon, and was a member of Elon College Baptist Church where among other activities, she was a Sunday school teacher. In earlier years she took pride in singing with her family in a quartet.
She was preceded in death by her parents and by her first husband, William Earl Burke, and by her second husband, Giles William Longest; also a daughter, Glenda Faye Burke; and six brothers, Paul, Raymond, Deward, Romney, James and Calvin Brim; four sisters, Eunice Brim, Nola Brown, Jessie Bolt and Blanche Taylor.
She is survived by a granddaughter, Mitzi Gasgue-Magee and her husband Chuck; a great-grandson Brian Gasgue and a great-granddaughter, Jordan Gasgue; great-stepgrandchildren, Jesica Canelos and Josh Magee, all of Bennett. Also surviving are many special nieces and nephews; a very special caregiver, Cathy Hussey and many special friends.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Care View Rest Home and UNC Hospice for their loving support and special care.
Visitation will be Saturday, Aug. 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Joyce-Brady Chapel in Bennett.
