Mrs. Dorothy Thompson Massey


    BURLINGTON — Mrs. Dorothy Thompson Massey, 80, of Liberty Commons, died on Friday, Aug. 28, 2009, after several months of failing health.
    A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of Kent BooneThompson Sr. and Selma Ann Glenn Thompson, both deceased. She was retired from Kayser-Roth after 25 years of service and was a member of St. John’s New Mission United Church of Christ.
    She is survived by her two sons, Robert Steve Massey and wife, Betty, of Burlington and William Michael "Mike" Massey and wife, Wanda, of Raleigh; three grandchildren, Katie Earley, Shannon Brown and Jacob Brown; a great-grandson, Stetson Cain Hawkins; three nieces, Phyllis Allan and husband, Ted, Annette Younger and husband, Michael, and Linda Lamp and husband, Scott. She was predeceased by a brother, Kent Thompson Jr.
    A funeral service will be held at the Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Monday, Aug. 31, at 2 p.m. with Dr. Mack Painter officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery.
    The family will receive friends at the Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Burlington from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service and at other times will be at the residence of her son, Steve, 1921 Downing Drive, Burlington.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Alamance/Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, N.C. 27215.
    The family wishes to thank all the caregivers at Liberty Commons and Hospice of Alamance/Caswell for their care and support.
