A son Nanny Fitch Campbell and James Alonzo Campbell.
He proudly served in the United States Army during World War II where he earned medals for American Theater Service, Bronze Service Star, Good Conduct, Asiatic-Pacific Service and the World War II Victory Medal. Mr. Campbell married, Frances Drake, on Sept. 20, 1947.
He is survived by his loving wife, Frances Drake Campbell of the home; four children, Diane Campbell LeFiles and husband, Leonard, of Tarboro, N.C.; James R. Campbell Jr. and wife, Lavonne, of Downers Grove, Ill.; David E. Campbell and wife, Sandra, of Owens Cross Roads; and Susan Campbell Jordan and husband, David, of FuquayVarina, N.C.; additional survivors include his sister, Nanny Lou Gwyn and husband, Kenneth "Jack" of Burlington, N.C.; his brother, John Manley Campbell and wife, Polly, of Matthews, N.C.; and 10 grandchildren.
