Obituary Online notes for Bess Emily ACHILLES
Bess Emily Achilles Allred, 93, slipped peacefully away November 21, 2016 in Richmond, Va. Bess was born in Austin on June 7, 1923 to August and Hazel Achilles, longtime Austin grocers.
Although she lived in Wisconsin for a number of years following her first marriage to William Horne, her heart always remained in Texas. She returned home to Austin in the early 60's and worked for the American Statesman Newspaper for the next 22 years, retiring in 1985.
Bess married David Allred, a local jeweler, in 1969 and the two of them loved to dance as well as travel to visit relatives and friends. She also was an avid Texas Longhorn fan.
She moved to Richmond Va. in 2012 to be closer to her son and his family, living at the Crossings at Bon Air.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David D. Allred and her brother Herman A. Achilles.
She is survived by her children, Barbara A. Fiandt (Michael) of Cambridge, WI and Robert M. Horne (Susan) of Richmond, Va. Other survivors include her sister Hazel Irene Thomas of Dallas, Tx, grandchildren, Briana and Bill Fiandt, Camille (Matt) Foster, Emily (Michael) Henley, two great grandsons, Jackson Foster and Mason Henley and numerous nieces and nephews.
Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Austin, Tx. with a visitation at Cook-Walden Funeral Home at 6100 Lamar Blvd. Austin.
