DURHAM, N.C. — Kathleen Fitch Oakley, 92, died on Wednesday, August 4, 2010.
Born in Caswell County on Nov. 24, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Fletcher Thomas and Vera McAdams Fitch.
She was employed as a Certified Nurse’s assistant for 37 years. For many years she worked at Hillhaven Orange Nursing Home on Mt Sinai Road. She made many friends there and enjoyed the staff and working with certain patients that were special to her.
Upon her retirement from Hillhaven Orange, Mrs. Oakley was employed as a transport assistant with Erwin Gardens Rehabilitation until she was 85 years of age.
Mrs. Oakley was a long time member of Robbins Road Christian Church and in the last few years was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; sisters, Louise Ray, Grace Rose, Pauline Fitch, Marie Walker; and one brother, Fletcher Fitch Jr.
Surviving are two daughters, Patsy Gibson (Buddy) of Burlington, Carol Holmes (Jackie) of Durham; granddaughter, April Briggs (Stan); and her great-grandson, Gene Briggs of Winterville, N.C.
Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. on Friday, August 6, 2010 at the Hall-Wynne Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, August 7, 2010 at the Chapel of Hall-Wynne Funeral Home. Presiding will be Michael Poole.
Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Burlington, N.C.
