Felix Calvin Simmons
HENDERSON —FelixCalvin Simmons, 89, a resident of 2320 Woodland Road, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, at Maria Parham Medical Center. Felix was a model of love and compassion toward his family and community. He served God with all his heart as a faithful servant of Christ in the church and the world. He enthusiastically enjoyed building his relationships in the community through service. Many of his tireless efforts go unnoticed. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and greatgrandfather. He impacted his family as he showered them with laughter, love and kindness.
Felix was born on April 21, 1923, in Caswell County, the son of the late Elisha Simmons and Martha Rice Simmons. Felix was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II. He was the owner and operator of Simmons Ford and Henderson Toyota. He enjoyed contributing to his community in many ways.
He was a member of the Henderson Lions Club, serving as its president for several years. He was a former director of the Salvation Army and served as chairman of the board. He also served as a director and chairman of the Vance County American Red Cross. Felix served other organizations such as director of the Vance County United Way.
He was a recipient of the Time Magazine Quality Dealer Award for Automotive Excellence and Community Service in 1990. In 1991, he was recognized as the Henderson-Vance County Citizen of the Year. His life of compassion and service spread through the community in many other capacities that are not listed here.
Felix was an active member of the First Baptist Church, serving as a deacon, chairman of the Baptist Men, Sunday school teacher, and he was particularly fond of singing in the choir.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Ronald Cava and the Rev. Dr. Marion D. Lark. A private burial will follow in the Union Ridge Christian Church Cemetery in Burlington.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine Pace Simmons of the home; one daughter, Cindy S. Simpson and husband, Jim of Henderson; one son, Ken Simmons and wife, Cathy of Burke, Va.; two sisters, Frances S. Gilliam and Grace S. Shambley, both of Burlington; six grandchildren, Kelly S. Scupelli, Kimberly S. Jones, James Simpson, III, Justin Simmons, Ashley Simmons and Ryan Simmons; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home at 2320 Woodland Road.
Serving as pall bearers will be Tom McBride, Dr. Richard Noel, Dr. Phil Young, Dickie Whitten, Dr. Franklin Mills, Dr. Beverly Tucker, Dr. Reginald Tucker, David Hicks, Dr. Joe Callahan, Dr. Bill Dennis, Buddy Thomas, Frank Madigan, John Mc-Bride, Bob Hubbard, John Falkner, Dr. Roddy Drake, Jonathan O’Geary, Tommy Haithcock, Norman Haithcock, Davis Hale, Tony Forsythe, J.J. Johnson, David Hicks, and T.J. Julius.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Choir Fund, P.O. Box 75, Henderson, NC 27536.

Elaine P. Simmons
HENDERSON - Elaine Pace Simmons, 92, formerly of Woodland Road, died Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at a local nursing home. Born in Alamance County on June 21, 1928 she was the daughter of the late Willie James Pace and Lessie Ray Pace and was the widow of Felix Calvin Simmons.
Elaine was a former kindergarten teacher for 13 years and was a former bookkeeper for Simmons Ford and Henderson Toyota. She played the organ and piano for church many years of her life. As a member of First Baptist Church Henderson, she enjoyed involvement in the handbell choir. Sharing her faith in music was a gift that blessed many. She often brought her family together for amazing home cooked meals. They especially enjoyed her yeast rolls with strawberry jam. Elaine gave her life taking care of home and her family.
A graveside funeral service will be held Friday, June 26, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Union Ridge Church in Burlington by Pastor Tyler Jones.
Elaine is survived by her daughter, Cindy S. Simpson and husband Jim of Henderson; her son, Ken Simmons and wife Cathy of Burke, VA; six grandchildren, Justin Simmons, Ashley Blinson, Ryan Simmons, Kelly Lane Scupelli, Kimberly Jones, and James M. “Tripp” Simpson, III; and eleven great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, William Pace; and two sisters, Helen Phillips and Louise Hester.
