Obituary Online notes for Elizabeth RECORD
Mrs. Elizabeth R. Oakley, 90, passed away on February 19, 2014. A native of Alamance County, Elizabeth was the daughter of the late Ralph H. and Mary Jane Record, and the beloved wife of Rev. Curtis V. Oakley for 72 years. She attended Pleasant Grove High School, where she received medals for her expertise in presenting recitations, and received her GED from Alamance Community College. She was formerly employed at Plaid Mills, Mason's Department Store, and Faith Book and Music Store, but her greatest joy was as a homemaker, a singer, and as a pastor's wife during Rev. Oakley's ministry. Elizabeth was a talented lyricist and a published poet. She had a beautiful soprano voice and played violin, guitar, and accordion. She and her children sang and traveled as The Oakley Family, supporting Rev. Oakley in evangelistic work for many years and later in his pastorates at Hico Baptist Church and Riverside Baptist Church for more than 30 years. She loved the Lord, her family, her friends, and her home. She remained a member of Riverside Baptist Church after Rev. Oakley's retirement from the pastorate, and, as long as her health permitted, supported him in numerous interim pastorates. In addition to her parents, Elizabeth was preceded by her brother, Adam (Elva); her sisters, Martha (Harvey) Phillips and Ruth (John) Reiber; brother-in-law, Raymond Poteat; nephew, James Harvey ("Ponnie") Phillips; daughter-in-law, Linda Faye Oakley; and father and mother-in-law, Andrew David "Dave" Oakley and Ida Elizabeth SquiresOakley. Along with Rev. Oakley of the home, Elizabeth is survived by sons, Geoffrey and Keith (Lynn) of Burlington; daughter, Linda (Don) Patterson of Greensboro; grandchildren, Shelly (Joey) Belton, Shannon (Tracy) Oakley, and Heather (Bobby) Boysel, all of Burlington; great-grandchildren, Cody and Jackson Belton, Dawson Boysel, and Dylan and Macie Oakley. She is also survived by her sister, Lillie Wallace; nephew, Billy Harden; and nieces, Kathleen (J.W.) Trollinger, Donna (Larry) Johnson, Barbara (Rohnney) Cheek, June (Tim) Dineen, and Joann (Jerry) Beal. Also surviving are several great-nieces and great-nephews, their spouses and children, as well as many of Rev. Oakley's nieces and nephews and their extended families. A celebration of Elizabeth's life will be held at Riverside Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Graham Memorial Park. 470, Elizabeth Record Oakley-
