Obituary Online notes for Mary Elizabeth RILEY
Pleasant Garden: Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Riley Clapp, 100, passed away April 26, 2014 at Clapp’s Nursing Center, 5229 Appomattox Rd.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 on Monday, April 28 at Pleasant Garden United Methodist Church, interment will follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Phil Deberry, Rev. Dr. Lawrence Clapp, and Rev. Mike Barrett will officiate.

Mrs. Clapp was born in Alamance County on March 7, 1914 to the late George Washington and Dora Bell Riley. She retired from Clapp’s Nursing Center as an LPN. Mary was a member of Pleasant Garden United Methodist Church, Pleasant Garden Historical Society, Pleasant Garden, Garden Club and was a charter member of the North Carolina Healthcare Facilities Association. Mary and her late husband, George, founded Clapp’s Nursing Center in Pleasant Garden in 1952 and Clapp’s of Asheboro in 1959.

In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in death by husband, George W. Clapp, son, Riley W. Clapp, and daughter Sue C. Pike.

Left to cherish her memories are, son, G. Donald Clapp of Asheboro; son-in-law, Gerald Pike of Pleasant Garden, 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
