Paul E. Davis dies at age 103
BURLINGTON — Mr. Paul E. Davis, 103, of Blakey Hall in Elon and formerly of Trollinger Street, Burlington, died Sept. 18, 2012 at his residence.
A native of Greensboro, he was married for 59 years to the late Beulah Tickle Davis, who died in 1986. Mr. Davis was the son of the late Walker J. Davis and the late Ida Kernodle Davis. He was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard serving during World War II in North Africa and the European Theater as a Chief Motor Machinist’s Mate. He participated in the invasion of Normandy, where his vessel, LCI91, was lost during D-Day on Omaha Beach. He was awarded a commendation from the French Government for his service. Mr. Davis was a skilled pipe fitter and worked for many years for Huffman Oil Company. He was also a Maintenance Supervisor for Edgewood Manor in Burlington.
Mr. Davis was an active member of West Burlington Methodist Church. He enjoyed woodworking and was a skilled craftsman. Mr. Davis was an avid fisherman and loved the North Carolina coast. He thoroughly enjoyed all of the time he spent with his loving family and friends.
Mr. Davis is survived by his grandchildren, Stephen Ford Bolick and wife Susan, James Kent Bolick and wife Debbie, Leigh Bolick Simmons and husband Grady, Leslie Anne Bolick; and his great-grandchildren, Stephen Ford Bolick II, Kelly Davis Bolick, Alison Kent Bolick, Elizabeth Jean Bolick, Gary Brent Jacques and wife Jennifer, Lauren Williams Caldwell, Meghan Smith Caldwell and Grayson Bennett Caldwell; great-greatgrandchildren, Grant Jacques and Leighton Jacques; and his son-in-law’s wife, Elsie Somers Haithcock Bolick.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah Davis; daughter, Jean Davis Bolick and husband Hubert Ford Bolick; son, Bennett Davis; brothers, Ralph and Carl; sisters, Effie, Eula and Annie; and his greatgrandson, James Bolick.
The family will receive friends at Rich and Thompson in Burlington on Thursday. Sept. 20, 2012 from 6 until 8 p.m.
Services for Mr. Davis will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 21, 2012 at First Christian United Church of Christ in Burlington. Officiating will be the Rev. Mark Pickett and the Rev. David Huffman. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.
The family would like to express gratitude to Vanessa Worth and her team — Paulette Minor, Hazel Harrelson and Shirley Proctor, and to Paul’s other special caregivers. The family would also like to recognize the staff of Blakey Hall for their love and support for the past six years.
