Virginia Dare Welch Fryar
GIBSONVILLE — Mrs. Virginia DareWelch Fryar, of Gibsonville, died Sunday, October 10, 2010, at her residence, following a lengthy illness of Alzheimer’s.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on October 12, 2010 at Peace Lutheran Church, 6015 Frieden Church Road, Gibsonville, conducted by Pastors Bernie Hess and Allen Myers. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Fryar was born October 13, 1922 in Guilford County to William Corbett Welch and Florence Grace Millikan Welch. After graduating from High Point Senior High School and King’s Business College, she worked for Cummings Diesel. She met her husband James Alexander Fryar Jr. and they married January 6, 1951. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church where she served on the church council, as well as the financial, stewardship, social ministry, and fellowship/bereavement committees. She had assisted with special projects at the church, such as Bible School and the Christmas Programs. She was one of two who helped organize and start the McLeansville Fire Department Auxiliary.
After her marriage she worked on the family dairy farm, Mur-Rock Farm, which had been started by her husband’s parents. Later, she and her husband owned/operated Mur-Rock Grocery. Later, they began their new business of Fryar Ambulance Service and continued that operation until their retirement.
Mrs. Fryar was a member of the Woodmen of the World, Lodge # 26.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Milton Boyers; son Ronald M. Boyers and her sister, Carleen Welch Mercer.
Mrs. Fryar is survived by her husband of 59 years; her son, James A. Fryar III and daughter, Janice F. Buckner (William) both of Gibsonville; five grandchildren: Jeff Boyers (Tammy) of Randleman; Jennifer Gullett (Brian) of Salisbury; Greg Buckner (fiancée, Sarah) of Gibsonville; Kevin Buckner (Jessica) of McLeansville; Amber Fryar (fiancé, Zack) of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; two great-grandchildren, Cole A. Boyers and Addison E. Boyers, both of Randleman and one great-stepgrandson, Wyatt Hughes of Gibsonville, daughter-in-law Susan Boyers of Oakland California, and Ruby Brown Garges of Charlotte, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
