Obituary for Jesse Gilmore Hawker
Jesse Gilmore Hawker, Jr., 71 of 3326 Durham Street, Ext. Burlington, NC, died in the Alamance Health Care Center on July 2, 2015 after being in declining health for the past several years.
Jesse was born in Danville VA. on September 12, 1943 a son of the late Jesse Gilmore Hawker Sr. and Mamie Wood Hawker. He had lived all of his life in Pittsylvania County and in the Providence community of Caswell County prior to moving to Alamance County. Jesse was a graduate of the former Hylton Hall Adult Night School. He had retired from the Caswell County Maintenance Department and
Jesse was a member of the Shallowford Christian Church in Burlington. He married Mary Elizabeth McBride Hawker prior to marrying Rachael Brown Hawker who survives of Burlington, NC.
Jesse is also survived by a daughter Teresa Hawker & husband Dr. G. Jones Oliver of Danville, VA, a step-daughter Laurie Perdue & husband Gary Okano of California, a step-son William Lance Perdue of Burlington, NC, three brothers Donald N. Hawker & wife Marie, John S. “Sammy” Hawker & wife Pauline all of Keeling, VA and Otis S. Hawker & wife Donna of Danville, VA, three grandchildren Brian E. Hawker, Jr., Elsie Arianna Hester Miracle Eve Hester & two step granddaughters Alexandra Purdue & Emerson Okano. He was predeceased by one son Brian Edward Hawker, one sister Dawn Gertrude Mitchell and one infant brother & sister.
Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, July 5, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. from the Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel by the Reverend Steve Regan and Rev. Dr. G. Jones Oliver. Interment will follow in the Hawker Family Cemetery at Keeling, VA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, July 4, 2015 from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. and other times they will be at the residence of his brother Donald & Marie Hawker, 16832 Old Richmond Road, Keeling, VA 24566. The family suggests in lieu of flowers that memorial donations be made to the Shallowford Christian Church, 1263 Shallowford Church Road, Burlington, NC 27244.
