BROWNS SUMMIT — Ms. Violette Christine Brown, age 81, passed away Monday, November 29, 2010 at Moses Cone Hospital.
A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of the late Luther Van and Lula Jones Brown.
She was employed by Burlington Industries Ossipee Plant and Williamsburg Plant for over 40 years. Violette was a longtime member of Apple’s Chapel Christian Church where she was a member of the Helping Hands Sunday School Class and the Women’s Fellowship and was an assistant teacher of the Beginners Class.
She loved crafts and was involved with the Chrismon Ornaments and Pauline’s Doll Class, was an avid gardener and a member of the Monroeton Garden Club. She was well known for visiting and delivering food and flowers to shut-ins.
Ms. Brown is survived by her brother, John G. “Bill” Brown and wife Geraldine of Browns Summit; sisters, Edna B. Michael of Browns Summit and Jackie Barker and husband Wayne of Burlington; sister-in-law, Hattie A. Brown of Browns Summit; 21 nieces and nephews; and numerous great- and great-great- nieces and nephews; and her special friend that she considered another sister, Mrs. Terry Huffines.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Howard Brown and Van Brown; brother-in-law, Billy Michael; sister-in-law, Virginia Brown; and a nephew, Rickey Brown.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, December 2, 2010 at Apple’s Chapel Christian Church by the Rev. C. Allen Myers III and the Rev. Tim Geiger. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Ms. Brown will remain at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory until taken to the church Wednesday afternoon where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. At other times, the family will be at the home of Melvin and Carol Chrismon, 7943 Troxler Mill Road, Gibsonville, N.C.
Memorials may be made to the Apple’s Chapel Christian Church, Congregational Nurse Ministry, 7345 Highway 61 North, Gibsonville, N.C. 27249.
