Grace F. Smith
   WHITSETT — Mrs. Grace F. Smith, 78, of 1704 N.C. 61 South, Whitsett, died peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, December 8, 2010.

   Mrs. Smith was born February 2, 1932 as the eldest daughter of Charlie Clyde and Hattie Clapp Friddle. Mrs. Smith was a native of Guilford County, N.C. She retired in 2004 from WestPoint Stevens in Burlington, N.C. She was a loving mother, sister, aunt and known as Granny Grace to the little ones.

   In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, James Hubert Smith; and a brother, Kelly Friddle.

   Grace is survived by her children, James Ricky Smith and wife Cathy of Burlington and Shelby Smith Gerner and husband Tommy of Whitsett; sisters, Helen Dawson and husband Roy and Shirley Vaden and husband Jimmy; brother, Wade Friddle; and many nieces and nephews.

   The family would like to extend thanks to Judy Lunsford, Lois Calhoun and Sue Durham for the exceptional care that they provided to Mom during the last year as well as Jennifer Bunn, Nikita Washington and Ann Batton with Hospice. These ladies guided, directed and led us through to the end. Thank you all. Mrs. Grace loved each one of you.

   The family will receive friends on Friday, December 10, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Rich & Thompson Funeral Home in Burlington, N.C. At other times they will be at the residence.

   The funeral service will be held at Brick Reformed Church of Christ on Saturday, December 11, 2010 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Kristen Gerner Vaughn officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

   In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Mrs. Smith to Hospice and Palliative Care, 2500 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, N.C. 27405.
