Iris Patricia Coleman Thornton
BURLINGTON — Mrs. Iris Patricia Coleman Thornton, 75, 2841 Isley Lane, Burlington, died at Alamance Regional Medical Center on Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at 9:22 p.m. following one year of declining health.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Zane Grey Thornton and the daughter of Joseph Lofton Coleman and Beulah Roberson Coleman, both deceased. She was a former employee of Kayser-Roth and Burlington Bookkeeping. Iris was a member of Bellemont United Methodist Church where she was very active and involved in many aspects of the church and a member of the United Methodist Women. She was a participant in Alamance County Meals onWheels. Mrs. Thornton loved animals and was an advocate for animal rights.
Survivors include one son, Alan L. Thornton and wife Susan Darlene Thornton of Burlington; one sister, Faye C. Barber-Cook and husband Austin of Burlington; and a special nephew, Jason Todd Barber of Burlington.
The funeral service will be conducted at Bellemont United Methodist Church on Friday, January 14, 2011 at 7 p.m. with the family receiving friends following the service. At other times they will be at the residence.
A graveside service will be conducted at Bellemont United Methodist Church cemetery on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at 11 a.m.
