Barbara Shepherd Garrison

May 2, 1932 ~ May 28, 2020 (age 88)

Barbara Carol Shepherd Garrison, 88, passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2020 at Moses Cone Hospital-Green Valley after a brief illness.  She was born on May 2, 1932 in Lancaster County, NE to the late John Russell Shepherd and Mary Ellen Graham Shepherd, and was married 51 years to the late Walter Norman Garrison.
Barbara was a former librarian and teacher with the Alamance County and Person County School Systems, as well as with the John Nichols School of the Oxford Orphanage.  She was a long-time member of Union Ridge Church and served on the Planning Committee for Services to the Elderly in Alamance County.  Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and aunt who will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her son, Mark Russell Holt Garrison; a sister, Marilyn S. Parsonson; nieces, Carol Marrin, Sheri Peeples, Ellen Milberger, Susan Harris and Donna Early; nephews, John Rodney Garrison and Peter Parsonson; six great nephews and four great nieces. 
The graveside service will be held at 2:00pm Monday, June 1, 2020 at Union Ridge Church Cemetery by Rev. Dan Ficklin.  Out of an abundance of caution for family and friends, there will be a private viewing preceded by a public visitation from 2pm to 4pm Sunday, May 31, 2020 at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory.  The family will not be available for receiving during this time.  Those who wish to pay their respects, are encouraged to follow safe pandemic protocols.  The family will be at the residence.
