Burlington, NC – Helen Rachel Thompson, 98, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at the Hospice Home surrounded by her family.
She was born July 10, 1923 to the late Thomas Vestal and Gertrude Blackburn Rachel and was the wife of 72 years to the late William Desmond Thompson, Sr.
Helen was a longtime member of People’s Memorial Christian Church and the Lightbearers Sunday School Class. She enjoyed gardening, caring for her roses and camping trips with Desmond. Most of all, she cherished the time she spent with her family especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her sons, William “Bill” Desmond Thompson, Jr. and wife, Sandra and Tim Thompson and wife, Karen, all of Burlington; grandchildren, Tracey Thompson, Melissa Wade and husband, Chad, Elizabeth Huffines and husband, Jason, Stephanie Enoch and husband, Chris and Landon Thompson and wife, Lacey; great grandchildren, Hali Payne, Lexi Payne, Kaison Wade, Ethan Wade, Piper Leigh Enoch, Allorean Huffines, Renesmee Huffines and Wyatt Thompson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brothers, T. Vestal Rachel, Jr., William Clyde Rachel and Winfield V. Rachel.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Larry Lamberth with the burial to follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:45 prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the home at 1152 Dogwood St.in Burlington. (near Indian Valley).
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to AuthoraCare (Hospice of Alamance-Caswell) 914 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, NC 27215 or to Piedmont Rescue Mission, 1519 N Mebane St, Burlington, NC 27217.
