Marvin William Smith
CHARLOTTE - Marvin William Smith, 89 years of age, of Charlotte, NC went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, October 5, 2016.
Marvin was born June 23, 1927 in Burlington, NC to the late Clayto M. Smith and Myrtle I. Smith.
He is survived by wife Mary Lee Smith, who he married 68 years ago on May 8, 1948.
He is survived by his sons, Danny K. Smith and wife Brenda of Raleigh, NC; Michael D. Smith of Safety Harbor, FL; Susan S. Locklear of Belmont, NC; grandchildren, Christopher Smith, Christina Smith, Ashley Locklear, and Eric Locklear. Brothers, Melvin M. Smith of Burlington, NC; John F. Smith of Fort Myers, FL; and Nadine Fuqua of Burlington, NC.
Marvin will be remembered for his unconditional love as a husband, father, and grandfather.
His grandchildren were his pride and joy and enjoyed every moment he could spend with them.
He loved spending time with his family and friends, traveling, gardening, and watching sports.
Marvin graduated from Broad Street High School and Burlington Business College. He served as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps during World War II.
He retired after 40 years of service as a Vice President from NCNB (now Bank of America).
He also served a term as Chairman of Charlotte Postal Customer Council and was President, 1978-1979 of the Charlotte Chapter of Administrative Management Society.
He was a charter member of St. Stephen United Methodist Church and a member of the fellowship Sunday school class.
Marvin was a member of the American Legion, Post 235 Matthews, NC.
The family will receive friends at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, October 10, 2016 at St. Stephen United Methodist Church, 6800 Sardis Rd., Charlotte, NC 28270.
Funeral service will be conducted following at 3 p.m.
Interment will be at Forest Lawn East Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to Novant Health Hospice and St. Stephen United Methodist Church Pastor’s Relief Fund.
The family would like to thank all the staff members of Novant Health Hospice for the wonderful care given to our loved one.
