Donald Mack Smith, 83, of Edgewood Avenue in Burlington died at 12:30 a.m. Monday, March 10. He was born on January 20, 1931 at Sutphin Mill in Alamance County. Mack was a member of Burlington Assembly of God Church. 

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Hallie Ragsdale Smith; daughter, Kathy McAdams (James); sons, David Smith (Cheryl), Ragsdale Smith (Cindy), Steve Smith (Jennifer), and Matthew Smith (Tammy); grandchildren, Susanne Rhodes (Chris), Bronson Fuqua, Joshua Smith, Megan Austin (Jeremiah), Caleb Smith, Jennifer Shingleton, Forrest Smith, Hallie Smith, Mack Smith, and Charlie Smith; and great-grandchildren, William Rhodes, Samuel Rhodes, Hannah Shingleton, Christopher Shingleton, and Ayden King. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, C.O. and Kathleen Smith, his brothers, Irvin and Sam Smith, and son-in-law, Ladd Fuqua. 

Mack was a graduate of Wake Forest University where he was a member of the football team. He was an agent for Equitable Life Assurance company for 20 years and Vice President for Real Estate at Byrd’s Food Stores for 23 years. Mack was a long-time coach for youth sports in the community. He enjoyed golf, blacksmithing, painting, and restored two historic log cabins and several classic jeeps. 

The funeral service will be held at Burlington Assembly of God Church Thursday, March 13, at 11:00 a.m., with the committal service to follow at Bethlehem Christian Church. Rev. Howard Thompson, Rev. Dave Gilbert, and Rev. Matthew Smith will officiate. The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 12, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Burlington and other times at his home. 3, Donald Mack Smith
