Obituary Online notes for Maj. George William COULMAN Jr.
George W. Coulman Jr. Major, U.S. Army (Ret), passed away Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at his residence in Stafford, Virginia. He was 83; a member of the Greatest Generation.

Mr. Coulman was born December 14, 1924 in Brooklyn, New York and was the son of the late George and Ella Gabriel Coulman.

George received a commission as an infantry officer through OCS at Pomona College in Claremont, California prior to serving in the Pacific during WWII. Following his return from the war, he served for twenty years in the New York and North Carolina Army National Guard. He graduated with honors from several Army schools including the Officer's Advanced Ordnance Course and the Army Command and General Staff College.

George was a carpenter and building contractor who took great pride in building and renovating homes throughout the southeastern United States.

Throughout his life, he was active in his church and community. He was assistant to his wife Mazie as manager of the Ronald McDonald House at Duke University Children's Hospital. He also served as a scoutmaster, choir director and Sunday School teacher while a member of Mt. Hope Church in Whitsett, NC.

He was an devoted husband and father and an exceptional role model for his children and grandchildren. He loved golf and music.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Mazie Shoffner Coulman of Stafford; a son Michael Coulman and wife Julia of Carlsbad, CA; three daughters, Kathleen Coulman of Ocala, FL, Christine Coulman and husband Dave of Stafford, VA, Patricia Rodgers and husband Steve of Mineola, TX; and his brother William Coulman and wife Pat of West Islip, NY. He is also survived by six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A Life Celebration Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at 10:00 AM at the Mountcastle Funeral Home in Dale City, VA, Internment will follow at the Quantico National Cemetery in Triangle, Virginia.
