On January 6th, Raymond "Slim" Phillips suddenly, but peacefully, went home to be with the Lord. Standing at 6'5" tall to all that knew him, knew him as a gentle giant. He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather (Paw Paw), brother and friend to all. His death will leave a hole in our lives that will be hard to fill.
A resident of Greensboro, he was born December 5, 1936 in Bakersville, NC to the late Carter and Millie Byrd Phillips. He was also preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.
Raymond retired after working for 40 years with Goria Enterprises.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ann Laughlin Phillips of the home; children, Linda P. Curtis, Reverend Donald L. Phillips (Ronda), Amy P. Smith (Jeff); grandchildren, Raymond Curtis, Carrie Ann Boles (Josh), Joseph Curtis, Stacey Smith (Michael Marsh), Joshua Phillips, Brandon Smith (Taylor Hankins), Taylor; great-grandchildren, Chloe Grace Boles and another great-grandchild soon to be born. Raymond is also survived by his siblings, Vola Stewart, Chester Phillips, WG Phillips, Virginia Murrell, Edward Phillips; sister-in-law, Susan Risotti and many nieces, nephews and special friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at Buchanan Baptist Church conducted by the Reverend Gene Lawhorne. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home North Elm Chapel on Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
