Shirley Aldridge Dabbs
YANCEYVILLE — Mrs. Shirley Aldridge Dabbs, age 76, of 482 Dabbs Farm Road, died Monday, Feb. 20, 2012 at her home, after several weeks of failing health.

A native of Caswell County, she was the daughter of the late Carlton Huis Aldridge and the late Edna Rudd Aldridge and was married to the late O.M. Dabbs, who died in 2005.

Shirley was a longtime homemaker and member of OakviewPresbyterianChurch, where she was very active, especially with the church choir. She was an excellent seamstress and cook, with her specialty being wedding receptions, where she prepared and decorated many beautiful cakes. She loved traveling and did so as frequently as possible and when she was home she loved to spend time working in her yard and her garden. She was a caregiver to anyone who needed it and was a very important member of her church and community, loved by all who knew her.

Mrs. Dabbs is survived by her two sons, Tony Dabbs and wife Teresa, and Doug Dabbs and wife Shari, all of Yanceyville; four grandchildren, Cheryl D. Huskey and husband Chip, Ashley Dabbs, Dwayne Dabbs and Nathan Dabbs, all of Yanceyville; a great-grandson, Anthony Huskey; two sisters, Carolyn Aldridge of Yanceyville and Linda Ballance and husband Murray of McLeansville; two brothers, Irvin Aldridge and wife Mary of Wilmington and Bobby Aldridge and wife Kathleen of Yanceyville; along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two sons, Wayne Dabbs and Carl Dabbs; and an infant daughter.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23 at Oakview Presbyterian Church by Pastor Bob Hillman and Mr. Dwight Chandler. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 Wednesday evening at the church and at other times at the residence.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be made to Oakview Presbyterian Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 74, Yanceyville, NC 27379; to the Wayne Dabbs Memorial Scholarship, c/o George Aldridge, 3390 Wagon Wheel Road, Reidsville, NC 27320; or, to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.
