Pauline Matkins Rudd Smith
HAW RIVER, N.C. — Pauline Matkins Rudd Smith, 90, former resident of 221 Roma Road, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 26, 2012 at Liberty Commons.
Born July 4, 1921 in Alamance County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lee and Eva Gilliam Matkins. She was a very hard worker, who had a kind and sweet spirit and was very devoted and loving to her family. She worked for Burlington Industries until she was 79 years of age and attended Gilliam Primitive Baptist Church.
She is survived by daughters, Marchaline Rudd Dean and husband Ed of Burlington, N.C. and Elaine Smith Hall of Haw River; grandchildren, Jeffrey Dean and wife Stephanie of Seagrove, N.C. and Diane Marie Dean of Burlington; special niece who was like a daughter, Geraline Bullis Warren; nephews, David Gilliam, Arnold Gilliam, Marvin Cranford, Dennis Brooks and Wiley Matkins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Reid Smith; brother, Lee Matkins; sisters, Eunice Brooks, Bessie Gilliam and Gladys Hudson; and niece, Linda Jobe Blackwood.
The family will receive friends at McClure Funeral Home in Graham on Saturday from 5 until 7 p.m. At other times they will be at the home of Marchaline Dean, 2024 Gardner Holt Road, Burlington.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Mc-Clure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham by the Rev. Michael Bullis. Burial will be in the Gilliam Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.
The family would like to thank the staff of Liberty Commons and Hospice of Alamance-Caswell, as well as Dr. Larry Harper and Dr. Nancy Maloney, for the loving and compassionate care they gave to Mother.
