ELON - Freddie Houston Smith (Butch), 83, of Elon went home to be with his heavenly Father on January 21, 2022 with his loving family by his side.
He was born October 30, 1938 to the late Lester and Mattie Smith.
Fred served in theU. S. Navy and retired as the plant manager of Flynt Fabrics of Graham. He was a member of the Challenge Tuesday Seniors Golf Group, a member of Lamb’s Chapel Church, and a formermember of Graham Friends Church. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and friends, family, and all of his grandchildren, playing golf, and working in the yard.
Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Judy A. Smith, of their home; his daughter, Terry Smith Bristow of NorthMyrtle Beach, SC; grandchildren, Jason Kurtz (Danyalle) of Duncan, SC, Brian Kurtz ofWilmington, NC, Erica Bristow of Woodruff, SC, EmilyMullins and EllieMullins, of Greenville, SC; great-granddaughter, Emma Kurtz; son-in-law, Mark Mullins (Michelle); and sister Erma Matherly.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Dawn SmithMullins; sistersNellie Rudd, Brona Herndon, Elva Apple, and Inez Conklin; and brothers, Earl Smith, Hassell Smith, Johnnie Smith, and Eugene Smith.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Graham on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. by Rev. Ken Smith with the family receiving friends from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow at Graham Memorial Park.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Mark Miller, Dr. Timothy Finnegan, Joshua Borders, PhD, and AuthoraCare nurse April and all of the CNAs.
