The Rev. Donald Overman
BURLINGTON – Rev. Donald Overman, 82, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, December 8, 2016 after a two week illness, he was at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born on January 16, 1934 in Guilford County to the late Thomas Clyde Overman and Eliza Cobb May Overman.
He was the husband to Geraldine “Gerri” Woods Overman for 64 ½ years, who survives.
Rev. Overman recently retired as a minister after 42 years.
In 1952 and 1953 he attended East Carolina University, graduated from Berean School of the Bible; received his BS degree (Magna Cum Laude) in 1984 from Western Carolina University and in 1988 his master’s degree.
Rev. Overman was a church planter with churches that started in Sylva, Gibsonville, Graham and Burlington.
He was a member of Christian Life Assembly in Gibsonville, an avid Washington Redskins, NC State and Detroit Tigers fan.
Survivors other than his wife, Geraldine “Gerri” Overman include his children Marisa Chrismon and husband, Larry, Mitchell Overman and Nicholas Overman; grandchildren, Cinnamon Khan and husband, Nick, Dentyne Rhodes and husband, Tyler, Avery Overman, Alexa Overman and Ayden Overman; great grandson, Curry Ben Chancey; sister, Peggy Ward; and several special nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Michael Overman and brothers, Thomas Overman and Worth Overman.
The funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, December 11, 2016 at Christian Life Assembly in Gibsonville by Rev. Bruce Ritter, Rev. Gerald Collins, Rev. Bryan Rainbow, Rev. Bud Wrenn and Rev. Todd Felkel with the burial to follow in Gibsonville City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory and other times at the home.
