Joseph was the son of Cladora May and Joseph Rankin Reece. He married Erie Parrish on 18 Dec 1901 in Guilford County, NC, and they had three known children.
His obituary in the Greensboro Record, January 28, 1946, provides that he died in the Piedmont Memorial hospital following a three-week illness. He was connected with the maintenance department of the city schools for 22 years.
Surviving included his wife, Erie Parrish Reece; two sons, John E. and Paul E. Reece, and a daughter, Miss Lessie Reece, all of Greensboro; one brother, Virgil Reece, McLeansville; four sisters, Mrs. C.H. Reese, McLeansville, Miss Lodoskie Reece, Greensboro, Mrs. C.E.
