Margaret Lefler Porterfield, 97, of Burlington, NC passed away at the Village at Brookwood on Wednesday, February 7, 2024.
A native of Wytheville, VA, she was the wife of the late Andrew Ray Porterfield and the daughter of Harvey Kent Lefler and Lura Gertrude Spraker Lefler, both deceased.
She retired from Kayser Roth as an office manager, and also worked for Fairchild, Sellars Department Store, Hillcrest Elementary School, and Margaret’s Dress Shop. Margaret was an active member at the First Reformed United Church of Christ where she served in many positions and also visited the shut ins. She was a member of numerous Bridge clubs and enjoyed playing golf and dancing. Margaret enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include three daughters, Diana Kakavas, Patricia Church and husband Wayne, and Tamara Smith and husband Brian “Shaggy”; one son, Andrew R. Porterfield, Jr. and wife Shelia; 12 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and one on the way; sister, Clara Callahan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Chris Kakavas; three brothers; and two sisters.
The funeral service will be conducted at the First Reformed United Church of Christ on Sunday, February 11, 2024 at 3:30 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 2:00 until 3:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall prior to the service. A private burial service will be held for the family at a later date.
