Obituary Online notes for Luther Alphonso MAY
Luther A. May, 94, died on Friday, Dec. 31, 2010, at his residence in Madison, Tenn.
Born May 11, 1916 in Guilford County, N.C., he served as pastor of several Seventh-day Adventist Churches with pastorates in Iowa, Tennessee and Kentucky. He also served as pastor of the Murray Seventh-day Adventist Church for 18 years prior to his retirement in 1994.
He was a graduate of Madison College in Madison, and he was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in England in World War II as assistant to the Chaplain.
In addition to his parents, Nettie Shepherd May and Charles May, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Lola Cheek, Bertha Johnson and Mabel May; two brothers, Howard Shepherd and Everett May, all of North Carolina.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Eunice Magoon May; three daughters, Sharrie May of Perry, Ga., Bonnie Phillips and husband, Lanny of Madison, and Judy Trigg and husband, Bruce of Powell, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Kurtis Ewell, Shonna Batey, Jennifer Phillips, Kristopher Phillips, Eric Trigg and Pam Benedict; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held today, Monday, Jan. 3, 2011, at 2pm at Spring Hill Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Steve Haley and Marvin Lowman officiating. Interment will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are handled by Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5110 Gallatin Rd, Nashville, TN. 470, Luther Alphonso May
