Mrs. Sara Rebecca Kernodle Dodson, 87, of Burlington, passed away Saturday, September 12, 2020 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.
A native of Alamance County, Mrs. Dodson was the wife of 65 years to the late Jesse Richard “Dick” Dodson and the daughter of the late Dr. Charles E. Kernodle, Sr., and the late Bertha Barker Kernodle.
Mrs. Dodson was secretary at Dodson Appraisals until her retirement. She enjoyed traveling, reading and being with her family and friends.
Mrs. Dodson was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church in Elon.
Mrs. Dodson is survived by her daughter, Susan Dodson York and husband Gerald, of Burlington; son, Mark Dodson and wife Jennifer, of Burlington; daughter-in-law, Deborah H. Dodson; brother, Dr. Charles E. Kernodle, Jr.; six grandchildren, Jason York and wife Marjorie, John York and wife Becky, Kelly Carter and husband Mitch, Katy Dodson Bales and husband Matt, Karin Dodson and Craig Dodson and wife Summer; seven greatgrandchildren; sisters-inlaw, Lucy W. Kernodle and Nettie Lou Dodson; and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and greatnephews.
In addition to her husband, Dick, and her parents, Mrs. Dodson was preceded in death by a son, Richard Taylor “Rick”
Dodson; a sister, Mary Winifred Kernodle; four brothers, Dr. Harold B. Kernodle, Dr. G. Wallace Kernodle, Dr. Dwight T. Kernodle and Dr. Donald R. Kernodle.
There will be a graveside service Wednesday, September 16, 2020, at 11:00 AM at Bethlehem Christian Church Cemetery, 3625 Altamahaw Church Street, Elon, NC 27244. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. S. Mark Clark.
The family will receive friends in the cemetery after the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Fairview United Methodist Church General Fund, 3128 Osceola Road, Elon, NC 27244 or to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
