Sarah May Doss
October 5, 1933 ~ January 5, 2024 (age 90)

Mrs. Sarah May Doss, age 90, of 2322 Cherry Lane, Haw River, made her heavenly transition on January 5, 2024.

She was born October 5, 1933, in Alamance County, the daughter of the late Jesse and Mattie May.

Sarah leaves behind her husband and best friend of 69 years, Jerry Delano Doss, who stood faithfully by her side, offering constant care and companionship throughout the duration of her illness.

A faithful member of Maranatha Baptist Church of Burlington, Sarah eagerly looked forward to the day she would meet Jesus face to face with joyful and confident anticipation. Her legacy is woven through a lifetime of dedication to serving Jesus, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of her family and all those she touched.

Sarah's remarkable artisan skills as a seamstress became the foundation for her journey. Alongside her dear friend and sister-in-law, Ann Doss Steele, and husband Jerry, she founded The Drapery Boutique in 1967. This venture opened doors to exciting opportunities, including a transformative trip to China, where she shared the art of custom drapery fabrication. Though affectionately referred to as the "shop," Sarah's true love transcended the world of fabrics. Her heart was dedicated to sharing the love of Jesus and kindness with everyone she encountered. Sarah's passion for the Bible was apparent in her teachings across Prison Ministries, Sunday Schools, Women’s Groups, and conferences nationwide. What sets her apart is that Sarah not only imparted these principles but authentically lived them out. She instilled her beliefs first within her family, extended the same warmth to her friends, and generously shared her wisdom with strangers and those in need.
Sarah's love for exploring the world was boundless, with her passion for travel leading her to various destinations, each experience leaving a mark on her adventurous spirit. Among all the places she visited, Israel held a special place in her heart. Driven by a profound desire to walk the lands mentioned in the scriptures, she had the privilege of immersing herself in its rich culture and biblical history. Throughout the years, Sarah had the opportunity to visit Israel five times, including serving during the Gulf War through the organization, Volunteers for Israel.

Sarah is also survived by her four children: Randall Doss and wife Deborah of Burlington, Amy Faucette and husband Neal of Mebane, Delana Simmons and husband Butch of Haw River, and Jay Doss and wife Christie of Snow Camp. She is further cherished by twelve grandchildren: Dustin Doss, Jonathan Doss (Christina), Taylor Doss, Audra Potter (Carl), Jessi Sisk (Chris), Jordan Simmons (Tricia), Aaron Simmons, Stephen Simmons, Jordan Fernandez (Frank), Kayla
Myers, Logan Doss (Reeci), and Payton Doss, as well as eleven great-grandchildren. Sarah also had many family members that have gone before her and many that she leaves behind all of whom she loved dearly.

The family would like to invite you to celebrate Sarah’s life on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at 12:00 pm at Hawfields Presbyterian Church, 2115 NC-119, Mebane. The family will be available for visiting prior to the Celebration of Life Service in the sanctuary from 10:00 am to 11:45 am.
Following the service there will be a graveside committal time at the cemetery adjacent to Hawfields Presbyterian Church.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to AuthoraCare Collective (Hospice of Alamance), or Living Free Ministries of Snow Camp, NC.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Sarah’s exceptional caregivers, who provided unwavering support during her courageous journey through dementia. A special acknowledgement goes to Sarah, Loretta, Bernetta, and Ernestine, whose compassion and love were a source of comfort in these recent months. The family is so very thankful for the wonderful care from Hospice of Alamance as well as the outpouring of love and condolences
shared with them during this time.
