LIBERTY Mr. C. H. May, 85, departed from this life Tuesday, February 10,2009, at Clapp's Nursing Center, Inc.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, February 13, at Coble's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Grady Beaver officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Born in Guilford County, February 20,1923, to the late Cecil and Vesta Reynolds May, Mr. May was a life-long member of Coble's Lutheran Church, where he taught Sunday School and served on various committees throughout the years.

C.H. was a friend to all, loved construction which he did as long as his health permitted, enjoyed gardening so he could give the fruits of his labor to friends and neighbors, and had a very delightful sense of humor.

C. H. served his country by being a part of the Army during World War II, serving in France, and received the Purple Heart.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his loving and supportive wife of 65 years, Irene Greeson May; his sister, Mrs. Betty Glasgow; and two brothers, Worth and Joe May.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Linda Wagner and husband, Bob, of Greensboro, Dean Smith and husband, Lindley, of Julian; two grandsons, Billy Wrenn and wife, Melissa, and Erik Smith of Julian; sisters, Pearl Coble, Rachel Garrett, Frances Coble (Winfred), and brother, Paul May (Mary) all of Julian.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8 p.m. Thursday, February 12, at Coble's Lutheran Church in Julian and other times at the home of his daughter, Dean Smith.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the loving and caring CNAs, nurses and staff of Clapp' s Nursing Center and to Dr. Nevill Gates and Margo Packheiser, NP, for taking care of and supporting C.H. throughout his residence at Clapp's.
