Elizabeth (Betsy) Rauhut Taylor

LUMBERTON - Elizabeth (Betsy) Rauhut Taylor, 95, a Burlington native, died at Wesley Pines Retirement Community in Lumberton Dec. 19, 2021.
Born Sept. 10, 1926, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Hilary Edwin Rauhut and Sadie Leigh May Rauhut.
Taylor was a graduate of Peace College in Raleigh, now William Peace University, and a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She moved to Lumberton in the 1950s, where she raised a family and was instrumental in establishing a center to help people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Taylor is survived by Susan Anderson of Lumberton, Janice Sellers (Keith) of Fairmont, Elizabeth (Betsy) Harrington of Burlington and Barbara Robinson of Pembroke, along with six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Her son, Richard F. Taylor Jr., and her grandson Richard Caldwell Taylor predeceased her.
She also had a “second family” with Illiana van Meeteren of Rhinebeck, N.Y., and her three daughters, Antonia Kannengiesser, Teresa Kerckerinck and Philipa Kerckerinck.
A Burial of the Dead was officiated for Taylor Dec. 22, 2021, by the Rev. Gene Wayman of Lumberton’s Trinity Episcopal Church at Bloyd’s Funeral Home in Lumberton.
