Jessie C. “J.C.” Cheek Jr.
GIBSONVILLE — Mr. Jessie C. “J.C.” Cheek Jr., 78, of 328 Faith Drive, died Friday, May 31, 2013, at his residence after several years of declining health.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Peggie S. Foster, who survives, and the son of the late Jessie Clarence Cheek Sr. and Nannie Goss Harris, who survives. He was a retired insurance salesman with Life of Virginia with over 30 years of service and was a veteran of the United States Army. He, along with his first wife, Ann S. Cheek, was instrumental in building the Cheek Field House at Western Alamance High School, at which time he was the president of the Booster’s Club and was honored in 1983. J.C. and his first wife were also founding and devout members of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife and mother, survivors include one son, Terry S. Cheek and wife, Tina; one daughter, Pamela C. Smith and husband, Chuck, of Charlotte; one stepdaughter, Beverly Ray-Groome and her fiancé, Tom Willard; one stepson, Kip Foster and wife, Maria, of Fredericksburg, Va.; one grandson, Tanner S. Cheek and wife, Mattie, and one granddaughter, Shannon M. Cheek, all of Wilmington; two step-granddaughters, Sarah and Lydia Foster of Fredericksburg, Va.; one brother, David Cheek and wife, Jan; and many loving sisters and brothers-in-law along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 55 years, Ann S. Cheek; one sister, Barbara Cameron; and one brother, Ken Cheek.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 3, 2013, at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. The Revs. Tommy Privette and Gene Ferrell will be officiating. Burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Monday, June 3, 2013, from 12:30 until 2 p.m. prior to the service at the church and at other times will be at the residence.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice League of Alamance–Caswell, 918 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.
The family would like to thank friends and neighbors for their kindness during his illness.
