OAK ISLAND — Allen Marcellas “Chettie” Brown, 81, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2013 at New Hanover Medical Center after five years of failing health.
He was born in Guilford County to the late Allen Jack Brown and the late Ruby Busick Brown. Allen retired as an installer with an elevator construction company, a farmer and a U.S. Army veteran of the 82nd Airborne.
Survivors include his daughters, Sherri Vincent and husband Jack of McLeansville and Kerrii Anderson and husband Doug of Columbus, Ohio; sons, Cheddy Brown of Shallotte, N.C., Chris Brown and friend Jessica Fette of Boiling Springs, N.C.; grandchildren, Jay Chatmon, Alexa Anderson, Taff Anderson, Charli Brown and Brook Fette; sisters, Shirley Jones of Greensboro, Pat French and husband Elmer of Oregon Hill, N.C., Peggy Steele and husband Jimmy of Boones Mill, Va.; brothers, Gene Brown and wife Geraldine of Gibsonville, Bob Brown and wife Linda of Browns Summit, Randy Brown and wife Jane of Gibsonville; his caregiver and companion, Sandi W. Brown of Oak Island.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Margie Rumley.
The graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 2013 in Gibsonville City Cemetery by the Rev. James Steele. The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service, at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
