ELON — Leonard D. “Pete” Smith, 71, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at Duke University Medical Center after two weeks of critical illness.
He was born in Alamance County to the late Terry Mack Smith and the late Mary Magdalene Beckom Smith and was the husband of 51 years to Vicki Wilson Smith, who survives.
Pete was employed with Carolina Biological for 53 years, a member of St. Mark’s Church, where he was an usher, a member of the Production Team and was a former Elder at the church. He was an avid rabbit hunter and a huge Tar Heel fan.
Survivors, other than his wife of the home, include his daughter and son-inlaw, Kelly and Jeff Satterfield of Burlington; sisters, Mildred Madren of Wilmington and Mary Jane Pettigrew of Burlington; brothers, Ross Smith of Burlington, Dan Smith and wife Linda of Greensboro, Luther Smith and wife Brenda of Burlington; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Margaret Todd and Betsy Albright; brothers, Allen Smith, J.C. Smith and Mac Ross.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 15, 2013 at St. Mark’s Church by the Rev. Bob Disher and the Rev. Ben Bishop. Burial will follow in Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and at other times at the home.
