Merle Elizabeth Moncrief, 103, of North Vernon died at 8:20 a.m. Wednesday, December 17, 2003, at Jennings Health Care Center in North Vernon.
Mrs. Moncrief was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening and fishing. She was a member of First Christian Church in North Vernon.
The funeral will be at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, December 20, at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home with the Rev. Gilbert Schreiber officiating. Calling will be from 1:00 p.m. until time of the service. Burial will be at Vernon Cemetery.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to First Christian Church or Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers.
Born April 11, 1900, in Jennings County, she was the daughter of Frank A. and Clara B. Simmons May. She married Earl Moncrief.
Surviving are a son, Maurice Moncrief of North Vernon; sisters, Madge Smith of Nashville and Bernice Showers of North Vernon; grandchildren, Grant Moncrief, Darlene Bradshaw and Diane Yeager, all of North Vernon; great-grandchildren, Justin Bradshaw, Leslie Bradshaw, John Yeager and Marilee Yeager, all of North Vernon, and Raven Moncrief, Jasmyn Moncrief, Hayley Moncrief and Falyn Moncrief, all of Westport; step-great-grandchildren, Miranda Sporleder of North Vernon and Brad Nolan of Crothersville; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, on December 7, 1957; infant son and daughter twins; a grandson, Gary Moncrief; a brother, John S. May; and sisters, Mabel Gorbett and Augusta Jolly. 470, Merle Elizabeth May Moncrief
