Bernice Alice Showers, 94, of North Vernon, Indiana, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008, at 6:10 a.m. at the Covered Bridge Health Campus in Seymour, Ind. 

Mrs. Showers opened Ole Corral Auction House with her husband in the early 1960s for five years. She retired in 1975 from Cummins Engine Co. in Columbus, Ind., after working 33 years. She also opened the Ole Corral Antique Shop in 1967, closing it in 1985. She was also a homemaker after 1985.

Mrs. Showers was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church in North Vernon, a member of Chapter #183 Order of the Eastern Star of North Vernon for 50 plus years. She also was a member of Bar D Saddle Club for 40 plus years and a member of Coffee Creek Conservation Club for 20 years. She graduated in 1930 from Vernon High School in Vernon, Ind. Mrs. Showers enjoyed playing Bingo, was an avid antique collector, enjoyed bowling. She also collected elephant items and liked cooking and canning. 

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home in North Vernon, Ind., with Rev. Richard Burcham officiating. Friends may call today from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home in North Vernon, Ind. The North Vernon Chapter #183 Order of the Eastern Star will hold a service at 7:00 p.m. today. Entombment will be in the Garland Brook Cemetery. 

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mrs. Showers was born March 9, 1913, in Jennings County, Indiana, the daughter of Frank and Clara Belle Simmons May. She married Joseph Showers June 30, 1930, in Indianapolis, Ind. 

Survivors include two daughters, Marlene S. and her husband Marshall Stoner of North Vernon, Ind. and Claralee S. Black of Bloomington, Ind.; three grandchildren, Marshalene Evans of North Vernon, Ind., Marketa Jo Seville of Indianapolis, Ind. and Melissa M. Johnson of Noblesville, Ind.; and five great-grandchildren, Kristina L. Mozingo of North Vernon, Ind., Marisa L. Seville of Indianapolis, Ind., Joshua J. Seville of Seymour, Ind., Zackery Seville of Seymour, Ind. and Riley Johnson of Noblesville, Ind. 

Mrs. Showers was preceded in death by her parents; husband Joseph Showers; two grandsons, Michael and Malcolm Stoner; one brother, John May; and four sisters, Merle Moncrief, Madge Smith, Mabel Gorbett and Augusta Jolly.

Bernice Alice Showers, 94, had lots of hobbies, interests 

Bernice Alice Showers, 94, of North Vernon died at 6:10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008, at the Covered Bridge Health Campus in Seymour.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home with Rev. Richard L. Burcham officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home, and the North Vernon Chapter 183 Order of the Eastern Star will hold a service at 7 p.m. Entombment will be in the Garland Brook Cemetery.

Mrs. Showers was a homemaker and retired in 1975 from Cummins Inc. after 33 years service. She and her husband operated the Ole Corral Auction House for five years during the in the early 1960s.
