MARGARET MAY RITES HELD TODAY

Miss Margaret May, for many years a resident of Chariton, died at the home of her brother, William E. May, 1543 west Franklin avenue, on Tuesday, March 22, 1932, at the age of 75 years and 2 days.

Funeral services, conducted by Rev. T. J. Zike, were held at the United Brethren church this Thursday afternoon at two o'clock, followed by interment in the Chariton cemetery.

Margaret May, daughter of Saphrel and Elizabeth May, was born in Monroe county, Iowa, on March 20, 1857, and resided there until seventeen years ago when she and her brother, William, moved to Chariton, and this place has since been her home.

She had not been in good health for some time, and a few weeks ago submitted to an operation in the hospital at Ottumwa, returning here the first of last week. Her condition was not thought to be critical and death came suddenly.

At the age of fourteen years she united with the United Brethren church and for fifty years had been a faithful and devoted member of that organization.

She leaves to mourn her departure two sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Miranda Grimes, Mrs. Lucina Borton, and William Ezra May, all of Chariton, and Alva May, of Santa Cruz, California; also a sister-in-law, Mrs. Wm. May, and a brother-in-law, H. H. Borton, of Chariton. She was preceded in death by her parents and by five sisters, two of the latter dying in infancy.
