James Rankin Thomas
BURLINGTON — James Rankin Thomas, age 82, of 118 Alamance Road, (formerly of Herron Road, Whitsett), passed away Thursday, May 22, 2014, at the Hospice Home.
A native of Guilford County, he was the son of the late Harper Jennings and Cordie Shepherd Thomas and husband of Beverly Thompson Thomas who survives.
James was a charter member of Gibsonville Evangelical Methodist Church and an Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict. He served for 34 years with the postal service with the last 12 years as postmaster in Whitsett.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Beverly Thompson Thomas of the home; sons, the Rev. Stephen Thomas and wife Jean of Greenville, S.C., Jimmy Thomas and wife Ruth of Ridgeway, Va., Dennis Thomas and wife Patricia of Whitsett and Greg Thomas and wife Pam of Graham; brothers, Kent Thomas and wife Lea of Gibsonville and Coy Thomas and wife Carol of Haw River; sister, Syble Yancey and husband Winfred of Mebane; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Winfred Thomas and sisters, Carleen Thomas and Guinevere Isley.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 24, 2014, in the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Paul Speagle. Interment will follow in the Gibsonville City Cemetery. Mr. Thomas will remain at Lowe Funeral Home through the funeral service. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m., prior to the funeral service.
