GIBSONVILLE – John Thomas Miller, 74, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 20, 2019 at Alamance Regional Medical Center after several years of failing health.
He was born September 12, 1945 in Atlanta, IL to the late Euless and Edith Miller and was the husband of 48 years to Betty Jean Arnold Miller of the home.
John was very dedicated in his local church in both Kissimmee Baptist Church and Harvest Baptist Church serving as an usher and working in the homeless and food pantry. In his teenage and college years he was an avid baseball and basketball player and was very involved with the local 4H club showing different varieties of cattle.
He began his career in the rent to own business in the early 80’s and opened his first Hometown Rentals store in 1985 with multiple stores throughout Virginia and North Carolina and retired after the business was sold in May 2018.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; daughter, Patsy Rowe; sons, Darrell Swain (Cyndi) and Jeffrey Miller (Julie); six grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren; sisters, Sarah Speciale, Joanne Hill and Shirley Aper and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Lyle Miller and Bob Miller.
A service to celebrate John’s life will be held at 5:30pm on Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor David Grinnell. The family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, NC 27215.
