Elizabeth Dixon Pentecost

BURLINGTON — Mrs. Elizabeth Dixon Pentecost, formerly of Alamance Road and for 19 months at Alamance Health Care Center in Burlington, died at 9 p.m. Monday, March 15, 2010 at the Hospice Home in Burlington.
Mrs. Pentecost was born May 10, 1917 in Burlington, N.C., a daughter of the late Sophronia Whitesell Dixon and John Henry Dixon.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Jacob C. Whitesell and Emily Huffman Whitesell and Bryan Dixon and Delphia Angel Dixon; her husband of 63 years, Joel Ellis Pentecost; her son, Roger Craig Pentecost; her daughter-in-law, Mollie Malone Pentecost; her sisters, Katherine Dixon Clapp and Margaret Dixon Oldham, and her brother Lacy Wilson Dixon.
Surviving are her daughters, Linda Pentecost Angel and husband Francis of Graham and Peggy Pentecost Dixon and husband William of Burlington; daughter-in-law, Marion Pentecost of Graham and grandchild Linda Louise Dixon of Burlington.
She was a member of Shiloh Presbyterian Church, the GleanersSundaySchoolClass, the Morning Glories Circle and Church Choir. During the bicentennial of our country she celebrated by joining the Homesteaders Club. For many years she volunteered her skills to the Alamance Battleground Living History Week demonstrating quilting, broom-making, willow basketry, and the use of herbs in colonial times. She was a good seamstress and made most of her and her daughters’
clothes. She made each family member a quilt and gave some to friends. Flower and vegetable gardening were her hobbies. The family ate well from her canning of fruits and vegetables. She furnished many flowers for her church and friends.
The family would like to thank the staff of Alamance Health Care Center and Hospice of Alamance-Caswell for the love, care and compassion given to our mother.
There will be a graveside service at St. Mark’s Church Cemetery, 1230 St. Mark’s Church Road, Burlington at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 18. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. at Shiloh Presbyterian Church, 2638 Grand Oaks Boulevard, Burlington with the Rev. Carl Parsons officiating. The family will greet friends after the service.
Memorials may be made to Shiloh Presbyterian Church or to the Hospice Home, 918 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, N.C. 27215.
