Naomi Florence Whitesell Schmidt, 101, formerly of 721 Trail 8 and St. Mark’s Church Road, Burlington, NC passed away at the Coble Creek Healthcare Center at Twin Lakes Community on Saturday, January 27, 2024.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late E. John Schmidt and the daughter of Lacy Jacob Whitesell and Ella Martin Whitesell, both deceased. Oldest of six children, Naomi is survived by a brother, Ray Whitesell. She was preceded in death by her brother, Worth Whitesell; three sisters, Vera Howard, Virginia Cralidis, and Lucy Isley; and a son-in-law, Roy Burton Hall.
Naomi was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister. Mom took much joy in doting on her grand and great grandchildren. She was a lifelong member of St. Mark's Church and was very active in her church circle. Naomi and John thoroughly enjoyed their many years and friends in the “Couples Club” and especially card games with the Hoffman’s. Mom was a creative and very talented seamstress which she continued well into her later years.
Survivors include four children, Sandra “Sandy” Schmidt Albright and husband Jesse of Durham, Jan Schmidt Hall of Raleigh, Jay William Schmidt and wife Ruth of Raleigh, and Alan Martin Schmidt of Burlington; seven grandchildren, Shawn Albright and wife Kim, Joy Albright, Wesley Albright and wife Amy, Ashley McCarthy and husband Bill, Seth Hall and wife Elizabeth, Dr. Benjamin Schmidt, and Sarah Schmidt; and eight great grandchildren, Marissa, Emileigh, Savannah, Gabriella, Liam, Gray, Naomi, and Oliver.
Our mom was very fortunate to receive the loving, dedicated care of Glenda Lamberth, Helen Enoch and Angela Baker during the last few years of her life. Our family is sincerely grateful to them and the staff of Coble Creek Healthcare Center.
A memorial service will be held in the old sanctuary at St. Mark’s Church on Sunday, February 11th 2024 at 2:00 PM with the family receiving friends in the lobby following the service.
Charitable donations may be made to AuthoraCare Hospice or Samaritan's Purse.
