Worth Rhyne Whitesell
 
 Mr. Worth Rhyne Whitesell, 88, of Burlington, passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at the Hospice Home in Burlington.
 
 Mr. Whitesell was a native of Alamance County and the husband of the late Doris Riley Whitesell. He was the son of the late Lacy Jacob Whitesell and the late Ella Mae Martin Whitesell.
 
 Mr. Whitesell was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served with the 9th Armored Division, 610th Engineering Company. He was a recipient of three Bronze Service Stars and participated in the Battle of the Bulge and the capture of the Bridge at Remagen. He is a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States (V.F.W.) and the American Legion.
 
 He retired from Bell Laboratory and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR), The American Genealogy Society and The Coffee Club at Andrews Drug Store and The Couples Club.
 
 Mr. Whitesell was a member of St. Mark’s Church.
 
 Mr. Whitesell is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Rhyne Whitesell of Burlington, Jennifer Whitesell Condrey and her husband, Kyle, of Huntsville, Alabama; two sisters, Naomi Schmidt and Lucy Isley, both of Burlington; a brother, Ray A. Whitesell and his wife, Carolyn, also of Burlington; a brother-in-law, Stratus P. Cralidis of Winston-Salem and many nieces and nephews.
 
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Whitesell was preceded in death by two sisters, Vera Howard and Virginia Cralidis.
 
The funeral service will be held Monday, March 24, 2014, at 2 p.m., in St. Mark’s Church. Participating will be the Rev. Ben Bishop, the Rev. George M. “Jack” Phillips, Jerry Flowers and Chris Howe. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
 
 The family will receive friends at Rich and Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service Sunday, March 23, 2014, from 5 until 7 p.m. At other times they will be at the residence of his sister, Lucy Isley, 3804 Tartan Lane, Burlington, N.C. 27215.
 
 Memorials may be made to St. Mark’s Church, 1230 St. Mark’s Church Road, Burlington, NC 27215 or to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 918 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.
