GIBSONVILLE – Robert Neal Smith, 77, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 1, 2018 at Moses Cone Hospital.
He was a native of Guilford County and the husband of 51 years to Jane Baker Smith who survives.
Robert retired from Burlington Industries, Williamsburg Plant after 44 years.
He was the owner and operator of Smith Garage. Robert was a member of Apples Chapel Christian Church and the CIA Sunday School Class. He served as an usher and trustee of the church.
He was a Board member of Fire District #28. Robert was an avid Nascar Fan and enjoyed going to races at Ace Speedway. Every morning he could be found at Pete’s Grill with his buddies for breakfast. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Baker Smith of the home; son, Todd Smith and wife, Kelly of Gibsonville; grandchildren, Stephen Smith, Hunter and Makayla Seay; niece, Sandra Carter and husband, Jackie and a nephew Kenneth Whitesell and wife, Susan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Leslie and Ora Catherine Ingold Smith and a sister, Jean Whitesell and her husband, Clifton.
A service to Celebrate his life will be held on Wednesday, July 4, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Apples Chapel Christian Church by Rev. Dave Johnson and assisted by Rev. C. Allen Myers, III and Dr. Larry Gray. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Apples Chapel Christian Church and other times at the residence.
