James Garnet "Jim" Fender


    GIBSONVILLE — James Garnet "Jim" Fender, 66, of 1000 Springwood Ave., died Friday, January 16, 2009 at Kindred Hospital after a year of failing health due to complications received in an auto accident in January of 2008.

    Born in Guilford County, he was the son of the late Buren Garnet Fender and the late Frances Whitesell Fender and was married for over 17 years to Mrs. Joyce Johnson Fender, who survives.

Jim was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from the Burlington Police Department as a Lieutenant after 33 years of service. He also retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 36 years of service.

He was a member of People’s Memorial Christian Church where he formerly served on the Board of Directors and also served as the Head Usher.

    Mr. Fender is survived by his wife of the home; three daughters, Amy Fender of Mebane, Lisa Fogleman and her husband, Bryant, of Julian and Donna Isley of Burlington; a son, Jeffery Fender of Gibsonville; ten grandchildren, Dustin Fender, Olivia Fender, Landon Williams, Gracie Fogleman, Hunter Fogleman, Barbara Cronin, Alexis Cronin, Scottie Cronin, Joshua Cronin and Nicholas Cronin; a brother, John Fender of Burlington; and special friends, Ken Crouse and Mike Greene.

    The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at People’s Memorial Christian Church by Rev. John Shields and Rev. Howard Thompson. Interment will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 6-8 Monday evening and other times at the home. Mr. Fender will remain at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory until taken to the church for visitation.

    Floral arrangements will be gladly accepted and memorials may be made to People’s Memorial Christian Church, 247 NC 87 N., Burlington, NC 27217.

    The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Kindred Hospital for their exceptional care and to all the family and friends that have shown their support over the last year.
